BLDD Architects served as the Architect of Record for LyondellBasell’s new state-of-the-art $30 million Administration Building in Clinton, IA. This new blast proof facility includes administrative offices, training rooms, a control room, laboratory, break room, clean room, and multiple maintenance shops. The building is designed to streamline operations by having multiple departments under one room.
LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies, was named to Fortune Magazine’s list of the “World’s Most Admired Companies” for 2018. LyondellBasell has 13,000 employees around the globe and sells products into approximately 100 countries. It is the world’s largest licensor of polyolefin technologies. LyondellBasell’s Clinton Complex has approximately 400 employees and contractors, and covers an area of almost 239 acres, and is one of the largest chemical plants in Iowa.
Using natural gas liquids as a feedstock, the plant manufactures ethylene, the world’s most widely used petrochemical, which is then converted into polyethylene plastic resins. These resins are the building blocks for products such as leak-proof and shatter-proof containers for industrial and household chemicals, packaging that protects food from spoilage and contamination, and children’s toys that are safe and durable.
